WORK > CORRODED

The work in this series is inspired by the lace-like remnants of a two hundred million-year-old fossilized sea creature I discovered in the archives at the Chicago Academy of Sciences. This baculites fossil, which is all that remains of an animal that went extinct around the same time as the dinosaurs, is not only beautiful but also reminded me of both the fragility and physicality of life.

I am fascinated with how our experience of nature is becoming increasingly less physical. Instead, it is frequently mediated. A digital screen has been inserted between us and our environment in countless ways. In my work, I am interested in commenting on the ways in which any interaction with nature is now frequently through virtual means, while in my life, I am constantly in search of a kind of wilderness -- a more authentic, analog, and perhaps unpredictable experience.
